I think technology can be a roadblock when it comes to licensing and cost. Adobe has recently stiffed me out of new buyer upgrade protection from their CS3 to CS4 upgrade path. I haven't barely touched the software yet, bought the full Master Collection CS3 and have owned it less than a year and they demand $899 to upgrade. (Which honestly I think is a rip-off, considering the amount paid - we're talking thousands here) and the fact I don't even consider their CS3 product a complete product - it is riddled with bugs, and the compatibility between Fireworks, Flash and PhotoShop seems tedious, at best.. and the annoying lock ups that never happened with the previous version I was using (under Windows)... that's even after applying the updates. (jumps off his soap-box)
