Yea it is a business, i live right in the middle of one. Really corn makes them grow faster? Could you provide me with a link please? I need to go check that out. I did'nt know we had magic make you grow faster than normal corn. What makes the meat taste better is how it's cooked and what it's cooked with!

The reason they grow faster is because the grain they feed the cows has growth hormones. This isn't necessarily good for the cow or us, but it is good for the cattle industry. It's an interesting article.

Quote:
Feeding corn to cattle in the weeks before slaughter has several advantages for the producer, including:
  • corn-fed cattle gain weight much more quickly than cattle in a strictly grass-fed environment and can be produced year-round;
  • the current system of ranching is designed around the accelerated growth of cattle in feedlots, and since corn-fed cattle fit this model, they are easier and more cost-effective to produce, and result in cheaper products for the consumer; and
  • corn-fed cattle produce the type of meat that American consumers have grown to love and expect: a tasty, marbled, fatty meat with smooth, consistent flavor.

Hmmm, thank you.

Hormones, yea i'm not down with that. I've jumped on the organic bandwagon. The healthier the better, i don't want a bunch of crap put in my food. I honestly prefer a leaner cut of meat with good spices and seasoning, i'm not the plain jane take a bite of pink steak kinda girl. Well done, well seasoned.

Interesting though....... I don't think the farmer here feeds his cows corn. He grows corn but he also grows grain for them, and stacks barrels and barrels of it right near my house, i hate it and the loud tractors. I know they eat plenty grass and are big an healthy. Maybe i will go take a picture of them, and post it so you guys can see the kinda cows i live near.

If cow gas were sentient, I wonder if it would realize that it continues to make it's presence very unappealing with posts like that?

Perhaps more importantly, its good for the corn industry.

In the USA almost every calorie eaten or drunk originates as a kernel of corn.

And we still have too much.

"Cow gas" is a good name for band. That way, if you stink, no one's surprised.
