I have almost weened myself completely off of soft drinks... or very few of them... over the past couple of years...
and as I sit here, and have drank about a 1/3 of a special edition Dr. Pepper... I did a quick search to remind myself why I do not want to drink soft drinks... (see link) Colas back when I was a teenager... I had 4 cans of special edition Pepsi that - some had foreign writing on them etc... anyway one day I noticed they were leaking (this was probably about 3 years after I had sat them on this shelf) -- which immediately made me wonder wtf! (and also I threw this in here, as I don't think we have a health and beauty section on the site... maybe we should have one) sooo I think I'm going to go find a container to place a nail with the remainder of my Dr. Pepper and see if it only takes 4 days for it to dissolve the nail... vs. putting the shit into my body!!!! *and will make this thread qualify moreso for the Sci-Tech area... (i'll take pics of the progress and post here) |

In that link it talks about how your body immediately creates a base to counteract the acid contained in the soft drink immediately as it hits your mouth... otherwise your teeth would dissolve...
and guess how it's does it... by using calcium... which as you can imagine might have a bad effect on your bones... the other interesting fact is that it makes your body produce insulin to turn the sugar from the soft drink into fat... so then you have fat running through your veins... your body burns that fat before it burns the fat you have... and the leftover gets to stay in your body as fat... and it doesn't matter if it's the real thing or the diet variety... and I was talking with an EMT and they were telling me the diet variety really confuses your body, as your body thinks you've got sugar - creates the insulin... it doesn't counteract anything and then your body really starts craving real sugar... in turn you end up eating or somehow getting that sugar into your body |

A few years ago I was drinking a 2 litre bottle of Coke a day!! Sometimes more. Then I switched to diet soda for awhile, then to iced tea which I drink lightly sweetened. Just enough to taste a little sweet, but not overpower the tea. I buy soda in 6/12 packs of cans or smaller bottles now & enjoy one occasionally on the weekend. |
