Rather awesome stunt, and we have another lander on Mars! This one did'nt use the bouncy ball landing that both rovers did, but instead employed a parachute, which was jettisoned shortly before touch down, and the s/c landed on rockets. It's been a while since this has been tried. The lander is already sending back pictures! Yes this is amazing!

I suspect the answer will yes. We know there was a lot of water on Mars at one time, (much of it is still there...frozen, just beneath the ground...and there are even signs of springs on the planet). Being small though, it could not maintain it's own atmosphere. Whether liquid water, and atmosphere lasted long enough for life to evolve is the real question.

One anticipates we will find evidence that the ancestors of the ancient Egyptians migrated from Mars when their planet experienced severe Global Warming due to overgrazing by gaseous oenoptopods. If only they had converted to a figalotix diet earlier. But at least we got all of those coolth pyramids and learned mathematics!
