Default Better than Photovalics!

Solar Powered Rotary Steam Engine

This has to be one of the best solar power converters I've seen yet.
Listen at that baby puuuur!

15000rpm @ 1/2 horsepower. Should be plenty to charge batteries, make hydrogen, compress air, or pump water. Whatever your personal power-plant uses as an energy buffer!

No clue about the cost of this design, he has a hydrogen assisted sterling engine design though, powered by the same sort of solar collector, that should be significantly less expensive.

The interesting thing about this though, is that the materials used are not exotic, requires very little specialized equipment to build, and is more efficient than solar panels.

I figure their more economical on a larger scale than planting solar panels everywhere at least. I could be wrong, I'm just excited to see this.

That's cool. Bet you couldn't have one if you live in Ted Kennedy's neighborhood.

Re: solar power, HGTV is giving a new house in Myrtle Beach away. A "green" house. Solar powered. it's beautiful.

One of my dreams is to live off-grid... But in a comfortable, modern way. Not an old-world farmer way.

Part of me kind of wishes I lived on a volcano, so I could use geothermal steam power! The other part of me is more relieved that I don't.

If you have cable and receive HGTV or better still look it up on the net. This house is beautiful and will generate enough power to sell back to the electric company.

Problem is damn systems - to do this costs so much, they take years to recoup the investment and maintainece on them.

Guy donw the road from me in Florida had a wind mill. he was pumping juice like mad. He was actually getting a check from the electric company.

"Maintainece?"

WTF is that? Some bizzare sexual ritual you must perform with a windmill?

I'm looking into windmills right now. I think that's the best way to go for the money.
