I'm not a climate zealot either...but I know satellites. And what is not discussed by the IPCC is orbital station keeping maneuvers which can affect the 'fudge' factors they apply to the raw data. All satellites have a number of small, (5n or smaller), thrusters, and a supply of fuel, (usually hydrazine), to maintain the spacecraft in it's nominal orbit over the planned life of the mission. On some orbits, the MSU will be looking at a thicker swath of the atmosphere, than others. It changes, sometimes orbit to orbit. The corrective factor they apply to these measurements is always positive, and constant, and as far as I know, do not take into account the actual orbital parameters of the satellites in question when the measurements of temperature are taken.
Worse, they applied their fudges, and guess what? The measured, (ha ha, wink wink), temperature anomalies from the ground still do not agree with satellite measurements, which is why the refuse to include them now. The global warming models predict temperatures to increase over time, in a non linear fashion...which is something they keep saying will happen, (since early in the history of the IPCC), but so far hasn't.....hence the discrepancies.
