was listening to a doctor on the radio the other night. he was talking about the Avain flu and pandemics.

He was saying that the current technology utilized in making flu vacine (the old inject and egg and patch the hole and grow the bacteria then extracting it, killing it and then making the vaccine) is about 50 years old and not effective and inefficient.

He was saying that the vaccine you receive this winter is usually for a strain of flu 2 years old as the current strain has utated.

He also said something I already new. All strains of flu start in China and asia. The reason being is the people ther practically sleep with their animals, pigs, chickens, and other farm animals and the are not very sanitary.


Anyway he went on to state what would happen if the bird flu hit here and claims 40-60 percent of the population (in what age group I forget was like 20-60 would die) if they became infected. Seems like a pretty bad thing to ***ch as the bacteria dissolves the lungs.

He said that strains of the bird flu are being shipped into the US for study but a two stage vaccine is being developed. The pitfalls - one would probably not survive long enough to receive the 2nd vaccination and no one would be around to administer it.

he was talking about how the pandemic would effect a modern country. everything would come pretty much to a stop and no food in the tores. was pretty interesting

He also stated that 2 years ago president bush signed over authority to the United nations in case of a Pandemic.
