Ron Paul supporters fall into different camps.
There are the true believers, the libertarian-minded types, who agree with much of his platform.
Then there are the faux believers, who only purport to support Ron Paul because they want to stir up extrement in the Republican Party, mostly on the issue of Iraq since that's his main contrast to the other candidates. But these "supporters" would not vote for Ron Paul in the general election because he's economically conservative (would eliminate many programs and departments), would not support socialist national health care boondoggles, he is pro-life and supports reversing Roe v. Wade, and so on and so forth.
Most of the faux believers aren't even Republican anyway, so that's why his only "impressive" numbers are on on-line polls where DemocratUnderground and their ilk can spam their faux support.
