Gustav slams Cuba as Cat 4 storm; many evacuated - Yahoo! News
I sincerely hope those people living on the Gulf coast have learned their lesson from Hurricane Katrina. You simply cannot rely on the gov't to come save your butt. You must be 'pro-active' in securing your own safety. |

Meh - we live on a planet with changing weather, climate, tectonics etc.
Every place has it's risks. The Netherlands is mostly below sea level. If they can build and maintain dykes to protect their land, so can we. The problem in NO has been corrupt and ineffectual government. They appear to be doing a better job this time. |

Like SF/Oakland. ![]() Lets Examine the fate of Galveston, 1900, which was a Thriving Metroplois before a Hurricane removed it from the map, and people decided to MOVE INLAND, to Houston. Why can this not be done today? Why must we wait until MULTIPLE natural disasters strike the SAME PLACE, again and again, Within the same Generation? ![]()
