Note that "obsessing" over does not necessarily mean "like." More like songs that seem to get into my DNA for a week or two and then mercifully self-purge.
Figured I'd see if I could remember as many of them as I could think of, with a brief description as to the why and wherefore and time period involved. Plus lyrics and/or youtube linkys, if available. Insomnia is an awful, awful thing. It makes you do truly pointless things. Like start this thread.

First up, the most recent song (as of last night) to reach this lofty status:
Harvey Danger Flagpole Sitta Since I take great pride in my absolute ignorance of all music produced since about 1989 or so, I have absolutely no idea who this artist is, but when I saw a link to the video on another site, yup, this one pushed the right buttons. getting the video not available message? Well, here's a the Link Quote:

Devo - Mr. B's Ballroom
I have no idea why this song appealed to me so much. But it did. It had its two weeks circa 1982 or 3 (I do know I was still in high school). Possibly the nihilism, possibly the reverse snobbery, who can say? Quote:

Head East - Never Been Any Reason
Can't believe it is all dudes singing this, must 70s era tight pants or something. Remember being about 12 or 13 and literally keeping my radio on all night in hopes this song would come on. Still an amazing display of raw vocal power, as tedious as the lyrics are. Quote:

Benny Goodman - Sing, Sing, Sing
Bit disappointed the kick-ass version from Carnegie Hall circa 1936 or 37 isn't on Youtube, since that is the one to listen to. This one is a Benny past his prime, no Gene Krupa, three annoying broads in place of the screaming trumpet section, etc. Well, one can't have everything.I think I was in third grade when I first heard this, dad was and is a huge Jazz fan. Seven years of trumpet playing later I concluded I have no sense of tone or rhythm. But this is the song that sent me down that silly path to high school band fag.

LMAO, listened to this one over and over drinking cheap beer after getting dumped in college. What a fucking tool I was back then. I'm so much more mature nowadays. ![]() Quote:

The Cramps - Tear it Up
Saw Urggh: A Music War in 1981 or 1982, had to own this one. Went to music store and bought some Cramps vinyl...and found out this wasn't on it. Awesome or awesomely awful on so many levels I dunno where to start. Lux Interior as an Elvis impersonator on acid is simply amazing. Pity he's surrounded by a cast of characters that have no clue how to play their instruments. Plus no bass, making it sound even thinner. Any resemblence between these lyrics and what Lux is actually 'singing' is doubtless unintentional.... Quote:
