He does all the typical dog stuff like scratch and sniff, the chin on the knee, lick the face, run around like an idiot and many more. He rarely barks, but he's very vocal and isn't much of a watch dog. His name is D.O.G. But most of the time, I just call him Odge. I'll post a picture of him, if I can find my camera This thread will be about his adventures in and out of the house.

I'm still pissed off

A drunken asshole on pain meds just went nuts and shot his dog in the head on his own front porch. It was a young black lab, like Odge. I took the gun away from him and threw it as far into the woods as I could, called him a stupid fuck and kept pushing him until he fell down some steps. He got up and went in his house and I came home. I'm too upset to write more.

Lost freedoms

Dick Tator asked me to write about lost freedoms because he thinks I'm old. I don't know if this is what he was expecting, but I had fun writing it anyway. Perhaps some of our older members can add to it or bitch about what I wrote.. We need to realize that freedoms aren’t written down like a grocery list. We have an inalienable right to act according to our own will. That said, I’ll try to show some differences between 40 years ago and today. I was a kid in the 60’s. I had no idea there was a war going on or that there were protests or even what a hippy was. My parents never voiced an opinion one way or the other, even though my uncle was in the army at the time. School was my job and I actually wanted to please my teachers and parents. I walked two blocks to elementary school every weekday and just so you know, snow doesn’t get you out of school in Iowa. We lived in a Czech community and my math teacher, his wife and baby lived right across the street from home. Every kid that went to my school lived within a mile. There was no busing and no black kids until about 5th grade. When busing did start a grand total of 4 black kids arrived every morning. We rode bikes everywhere without helmets and played tackle football in front of the school. We made forts from limbs in the warm months, snow in the cold and threw rocks and snowballs at each other until the streetlights came on. Sure some kids got hurt, but no one sued anybody. We knew our neighbors and our neighbors knew us. We couldn’t get away with anything. If we did do something bad, everyone knew that our parents would dole out a punishment far worse than teachers or neighbors ever could. There was no DEFACS, it was love, not abuse and no one was confused about it. We’d cut through yards and pick apples and cherries off of neighbor’s trees and no one cared. We had big vegetable gardens and we canned food. We shopped at Sears and JC Penny because Wal-Mart and Home Depot didn’t exist. We fixed our own cars and mowed our own lawns, shoveled our own sidewalks and the neighbors too, if they needed some help. There were no cell phones or Internet and no one knew any better or cared. All we had was a phone, a TV and the newspaper. We had 4 stations and we watched Lawrence Welk, Carol Burnett and Gunsmoke and we liked it. We ate breakfast and supper as a family at the same time everyday. My grandparents lived about 6 blocks away and we visited often. Both parents worked, so during the summer we attended day camp at the elementary school where we played games and did craft projects. Every Sunday we went to Sunday school and church and out to eat. We followed the grandparents and moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1972. While living with my grandparents for a couple of months, I walked to a middle school that was about 50% black. No big deal. The folks bought a house and I changed schools. I made new friends and we did the same stupid stuff we did in Iowa, it was just hotter. We still went to church every Sunday, had to be home when the streetlights came on and ate together as a family every day. I had to ride the bus to high school until I started working and bought a car. I turned 18 in 1977, which was the legal drinking age at the time. I’d get off work about 1AM on Friday night and we’d stop and buy a fifth of rum and a 2 liter bottle of sprite and it was off to the midnight drive in. We all got hammered and drove home about 4AM. Those were the days when if the cops pulled you over, they would just tell you to drive on home. I graduated in 1978, worked for my dad during that summer and started college in the fall. I guess I was an adult, but it never felt that way. The college years went quickly and consisted of more drinking, working and lots of studying. I graduated in 1982 and was offered a job in Georgia. Looking back I think some of the most important and poignant years in our countries history were when I was an oblivious kid in Iowa in the 60’s. Viet Nam was the first televised war. Television literally changed the country and the world. The violence and harsh nature of war appeared in everybody’s living room and it was enough to turn the minds and stomachs of many. The problem with television is it’s a one way street and Walter Cronkite had the only car. [FONT=&quot][FONT=Verdana][SIZE=2]These days, we have an education system and a government that caters to the countries continuing pussification. If anything has removed freedoms, I’d have to say it’s the misuse of technology by people who can't handle freedom. Hundreds of TV channels, the Internet and instant communication have created a culture of confusion and division. We’ve all been forced into groups and categorized for the benefit of government, corporate junk mail and spam. Computers are used to keep track of our actions and anonymity is pretty much gone. Group’s form and lobby government to create laws against things that were once considered routine, common and proper. They seem hell bent on destroying the very fabric that made America great. The very principles and integrity that made us stand out from the rest of the world have been purposely repressed. What’s true and correct still exist, but it’s buried under the voices of those who have learned to use the mass communication machines as a psychological weapon. A weapon used to remove the freedom to ignore. It feeds upon itself, drawing the weak inside and convincing them that our country will be better if we force self esteem on kids and teach them what we want them to know instead of what really happened. That it’s somehow better for the country if we remove deity from every aspect of public life. That our prison systems must be expanded to accommodate those who commit victimless crimes. That government exists to provide everything to everybody. I'm sure that most of you can think of several more. In essence, we’ve screwed ourselves. The shelter had a bunch of dogs get sick and die when they unknowingly accepted one that had Parvo. So now they have a quarantine period of one week. I've never done it before, but my question is this: Is it possible to build a decent system that will last as long as that refrigerator?

Apple-bottoms

Gentleman, Has anyone besides myself actually placed their hand on a strange girl's bottom? Ok, it was in a crowded bar during Mardis Gras in New Orleans, not at some Board Meeting, Sunday School, or Library.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.....

Finally.
